As well, the website is being renovated. Please be patient as changes are made.
Life Experience Credit
Fountain of Life School of Ministry (FLSM) assesses previous applications and transcripts to determine if life experience credit and/or transfer credit may be applied to shorten the length of study and decrease the academic content required to complete a specific degree program.
Once the amount of time and course content is determined by FLSM staff, the student will be contacted with a conditional contract offer to complete a program and may begin studies upon acceptance of the terms of the contract.
NEW!! Correspondence or Extension Studies for Part-time or Full-time students
The Correspondence/Extension department of FLSM is new. Due to continued requests, as of January 2009 the school will offer by Correspondence/Extension studies the full accredited Certificate, Diploma, Associate Degree, Bachelor (BA) and Master (MA) Degree for the programs in Pastoral Ministry and Clinical Counsel. Tentatively, Doctor of Ministry (DMin) and Doctor of Theology (ThD) degree offering will begin in September 2009.
Although a short term arranged residency requirement will be required for completion of a degree, most of the courses offered may be done for credit by correspondence. On-line guidance and video conferencing* will be integral to helping the student complete course studies.
1 - 2 courses at a time may be taken for the cost of the courses plus the initial $75 assessment fee.
3 courses or more constitute full time studies and require arrangement for full time academic acceptance and fees.
To begin…
To begin correspondence studies, please download, print out and complete the Fountain of Life Application Form found on the Application page. Send the form by mail, fax or email to the school registrar (the $75 assessment fee must be mailed, or direct deposited, by separate arrangement if the application is faxed or emailed. Applications are not considered until the fee is received).Upon receipt of the application fee, the documentation supplied will be assessed. Given acceptance, the information regarding costs for the courses and texts will be sent to you by mail, email or fax (student’s choice).
Texts and Supplies
To facilitate the student and to ensure smooth transition into the academic phase, all texts are provided by FLSM at school wholesale cost plus 15% for administration. Actual postal charges will be applied and billed prior to sending the curriculum package.
Once a selection of courses has been chosen and paid for, the courses and texts will be sent to the student and the name and contact of the staff who will be the student supervisor will be assigned. The student and staff member will arrange suitable contact times and the student can begin studies for credit.
To encourage the student to be proactive, the student supervisor will receive and mark portions of the course at prearranged designated times.
Time limit
Each correspondence course has a time limit for completion: ½ credit, 3.0 credit hours, has a time limit of 1 term/4 months for completion; 1 full credit, 6.0 credit hours, has a time limit of 2 full terms/8 months.
Those students intending to do most or a significant portion of their degree by extension/correspondence are advised to plan accordingly to spend the required time to complete the course work.
CAUTION: Avoid Burnout!!
Full-time studies with limited distractions are the best choice if possible. Full-time studies and part-time jobs are difficult but accomplishable and constitute the bulk of correspondence students. HOWEVER, full time studies and full time jobs seldom, if ever, go well together and constitute a large failure risk on the part of the academic student.
It is advised that the student who takes 3-5 courses by correspondence per
term be ready to apply themselves full-time to the academic work involved. 3
courses or more per term constitute ‘full-time’ studies for the purpose of
student loans in
Practicum Component:
As per the Calendar below, 1 full credit or Practicum per year is required for those seeking Certificate, Diploma, Associate Degree and/or full Degree with FLSM. Due to liason and marking requirements, this credit is treated as a regular course for degree purposes and is billed accordingly.
Upon request for the practicum credit, the student will receive a ‘practicum package’ and be asked to give 1 day per week to a helping ministry of the student’s choice (approved by student supervisor). It may be either a voluntary or paid position.
The student and FLSM student supervisor will arrange in tandem for the supervisor of the ministry to monitor the student. Those involved in a ministry at the present may arrange for a supervisor at their job location who will monitor their work for one day of each week.
A signature sheet and monthly progress report will be required from the practicum site supervisor to help determine the growing edge for the student. The signature sheet and progress report will be faxed to the school monthly. It will be the student’s responsibility to ensure the monthly reporting is accomplished.
* On line conference and guidance available: Computer requirement –
On-line assistance is available for the student. If the student wishes to
use video teleconference, the student will require access to a computer with
sufficient capability. The communication between student and student supervisor
will be by Skype teleconference and will require prearrangement with the
student supervisor. Please be advised the student will need a Windows XP or
If the student does not have a suitable computer and would like assistance purchasing the same, FLSM will supply either a modern desktop/laptop system (student choice) with webcam for the student for $600 Canadian funds plus actual mailing costs. The mailing charge will be determined in advance and the student informed prior to billing.
If the student prefers to purchase their own computer, please pre-discuss with the school the particular purchase in order to ensure the best capability for staff student communication: i.e. the school will assist the student in finding the appropriate system at the best price. You may determine the suitability by contact with the FLSM registrar at ‘folsom.registrar@sasktel.net’.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE
The Grade Point Average is the weighted sum of the grade points earned divided by the number of courses attempted. Courses with a notation of “W” are not included in the GPA. The sessional grade point average (SGPA) refers to a particular session; the program grade point average is calculated on courses offered towards a degree program and is used to determine a student’s eligibility to graduate, it does not appear onthe official transcript; the cumulative grade pint average (CGPA) is calculated on all courses taken, and does appear on the official transcript. Only the most recent grade in repeated courses will be included in any GPA.
EXAMINATIONS AND FINAL GRADES
The year is divided into two terms and examinations are held during and at the end of each term. Some courses may substitute the final examination with a term paper or some other means of determining competence in the course. Alternative means of examination are at the discretion of each faculty member. Final grades are normally based on class exercises, including quizzes, and participation, term papers, completion of required readings and examinations or some combination of these and the grades are given according to the following scale:
GRADING SYSTEM: 60% Required to pass
Percent Grade Grade Pt. Value Grade Definition
94-100 A+ 4.00 Excellent
87-93 A 4.00
80-86 A- 3.67
77-79 B+ 3.33 Good
73-76 B 3.00
70-72 B- 2.67
67-69 C+ 2.33 Average
63-66 C 2.00
60-62 C- 1.67 Pass
0-59 F 0.0 Failure
ACADEMIC PROBATION AND DISMISSAL PROBATION:
All students who obtain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 1.67 and less than 2.00, and who are not already on probation, will be placed on academic probation, but are eligible to reregister.
DISMISSAL:
1. Students placed on probation who, in their succeeding academic year, obtain a Grade Point Average of less than 2.00 will be placed on dismissal.
2. Students who, in any academic year, obtain a Grade Point Average less than 1.67 will be placed on dismissal for at least 1 year.
3. Students placed on probation or dismissal will be advised in writing of their status, of appeal dates, and/or procedures.
RE-ADMISSION FOLLOWING ACADEMIC DISMISSAL:
At the end of this period of academic dismissal, students may apply for re-admission and, if accepted, will be on probation. Only a student’s current academic standing appears on the official record:
Eligible to Register; May Register on Probation; Not Eligible to Register; or Graduated.
ADMISSION ON PROBATION
The Admissions Committee may recommend students with academic deficiencies (e.g., a Cumulative GPA of lower than a 2.00) for admission to Probation as Independent Students at FOLSOM. These students are expected to remove all deficiencies and raise their GPA to a 2.00 normally within a year from the time of admission to the College. After deficiencies have been removed, such students may apply for admission to the MA or MDiv program and seek permission to have the credits earned at FOLSOM while on Probation applied to their degree program.
